Some time ago I decided to start a personal project after work.
I asked myself "what makes me happy to draw?" and I recalled the joy before I went to Singapore, that moment where I was thinking how cool would it be if I remake Battle of Olympus, an old Nintendo Videogame. I eventually did it, but now I want to redo it after this years in the game industry, and see how much I improved.
I started it actually doing a lot of research, went in different pubs (and tried all the different Hazy IPA :D ), where I approached this project first as an art director, giving myself restrictions and design vision.
Then I started to sketch the location and some explorations for the props.
This step was essential since I wanted to tackle the whole project in Unreal 5.1. I still think for concept in Blender I'm faster but I enjoyed navigating through this massive beast called Unreal!!
I sketched the props in Blender and exported then in the engine, sometime texturing them using Megascans, sometime Quixel Mixer, Sometime directly in Unreal.
It is really insane the amount of controls that the engine has, and end up with a couple of screenshots that then I painted in Photoshop.
Loved a lot doing it, and i will keep exploring all the other locations of that beautiful old game since I've already set up the general Design decisions :)
Slowly I'll try to cover it all, hope you enjoy!
